PORT1003 Portuguese I

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

This course introduces the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures to students with little or no previous knowledge of Portuguese. It aims to develop basic competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing, while building foundational knowledge of European Portuguese pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.

Students will learn to communicate in familiar everyday situations, including greetings, self-introduction, personal information, nationality, languages, studies and occupations, through dialogues, role plays and practical tasks. Upon completion, students are expected to attain the lower range of CEFR level A1 and develop basic intercultural awareness of Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking world.
