SGE-CFL Pickleball Workshops: A Triumph of Teamwork and Wellness Within the School of General Education

On November 5 and 6, 2025, Centre for Foreign Languages (CFL), successfully hosted two dynamic Pickleball Workshops at Huitong Park’s Basketball Court. The events drew enthusiastic participation from over 15 SGE faculty and staff members, fostering physical wellness, cross-departmental collaboration, and camaraderie across the school.

Event Highlights

Led by
Mr. Eric Tang from the Whole Person Education Centre (WPEC), the workshops catered to participants of all skill levels, from novices to experienced players. Over two engaging sessions, attendees learned fundamental techniques—serving, volleying, and strategic positioning—through interactive drills and friendly matches. The instructors’ expertise and energetic coaching ensured an inclusive, lively atmosphere, with laughter and teamwork resonating across the courts.

“The WPEC instructors were exceptional,” said Mr. Jonathan Corbett, Centre Head of CFL, “Their patience, clarity, and ability to adapt to diverse learning paces made the workshops accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We’re deeply grateful for their dedication to creating a positive experience.”

Participant Feedback

Attendees praised the workshops as a refreshing break from routine work, emphasizing the value of connecting with colleagues across SGE departments. “I’d never played Pickleball before, but the instructors made it easy to learn,” shared one participant. “It was a perfect mix of exercise, skill-building, and socializing with peers I don’t usually interact with.”

Key Outcomes

· Skill Development: Participants gained confidence in basic Pickleball techniques, with many expressing interest in continuing the sport.

· Wellness Boost: The light-intensity exercise provided a revitalizing mid-afternoon activity, aligning with SGE’s commitment to holistic well-being.

· Community Building: Cross-departmental interactions strengthened bonds within SGE, from CFL language instructors to general education faculty.
